Welcome to the Starfish Class page.

Our teachers are Mrs Mijatovic and Miss Chilver.

Our amazing support staff are Mrs Wilson, Miss Hoddy and Mrs Huynh.

These are some of the learning activities we will be completing over the next few weeks.

Have a go at some of them over the next few weeks if you are self-isolating at home.

Don't forget to post photos on our class Twitter page @class_starfish.

What is the opposite of hot?

Freezing something inside some ice and then exploring how we can get it out.

Looking carefully at how things change when they get hot and cold. We are going to melt chocolate, toast bread and boil some water and then see if we can reverse the changes that occur.

What is the opposite of heavy?

Do some cooking and weigh the ingredients.

Explore heavy and light by feeling objects and comparing them.

Weigh objects to find out which is the heaviest and which is the lightest.

Our essential question this term is

What is the opposite?

Spring writing

Spring is finally here and today I challenge you to write about what is happening in this wonderful season. Look at the picture I have attached for you. What can you see? Using the phonemes that you have already learnt can you write down what you can see. Or for a more tricky challenge  can you write sentences using the sentence structure I can see......

Remember use your phoneme cards sent home with you to help you with your writing.

Daily Challenge

For todays challenge we would like you to see if you could borrow/use a mobile phone to google an animal of your choice. You should then see an option for meet the animal in 3D. If you click on this the animal should appear on your phone as if it is in your house. We know that this does not work for all phones or all animals but it should work for iphone. I have also tried these animals; lion, tiger, panda, snake, penguin, bear. Once you have taken a photo of this please share it with us, and then we want you to write some sentences about your animal. We look forward to seeing your work.

Below is Mrs Mijatovic's photo with a tiger!

Phonics

Buried Treasure

Today we would like you to have a go at playing Buried Treasure. Read the words on the coins, if the word is a real word place it in the treasure chest. If the word is a made up word place it in the bin. We have a phase 2 and a phase 3 for you to choose from. Who can read the most words and be the winner?

Art challenge

Our school like all the others in ASSET will be taking part in Image of the Week. Each week we will show you a new image along with some questions we would like you to discuss with your family. We would like you to record the answers to your questions onto a piece of paper. We have produced a sheet for you to fill in. If you do not have access to a printer you could simply take a piece of paper fold it into four sections and label each with the following headings...

  • How does the painting make you feel...
  • Where do you think the characters from the painting are?
  • Do you think the characters know each other? Why do you think this?
  • What objects can you see in the painting? Write a list.

Once you have done this please share with us your writing on Twitter. Once Google Classrooms is up and running this project will be posted in there weekly.
