Some of our past projects......

Our Summer term topic:

'What makes the greatest show?'

This term we have planned a topic all around our favourite film 'The Greatest Showman'!

We will be learning about what happens behind the scenes of making a show: costumes, scenery, scripts etc. We are working towards putting on our very own 'Greatest Show!'

Surprises to follow... wink

Our Spring topic:

'Where in the world is wild?'

We had a very successful final outcome and raised lots of money for the 'Bus Shelter' charity, by selling our handmade hot chocolate kits! Thank you to everybody who donated and bought a kit!

Don't forget to follow us on Twitter! @MeerkatsWcp for regular updates :)

Reading everyday will get pegs up to the top of the tree...! And earn you 2 Dojos for more Dojo prizes!

Our Summer term 2017 project:

"Are there hidden worlds under the sea?"

We received a special message in a bottle from Dougal the Deep-sea Diver, who has asked us to help him with the issue of water pollution in the ocean!

We are going to help spread the word about this problem and try to protect the under-water world.

It's the Summer term 2018!

Our new essential question is...

Is the sea as safe as can be?

We will be learning all about sea safety; from lifeguards to lighthouses. We will be learning about different ways of travelling by water and hope to visit Felixstowe to see the huge container ships in action! We will also be finding out about the danger of sea pollution, and through our project outcome will raise awareness of plastic waste that is ruining ocean habitats.

Our essential question for the Spring term is:

What makes a place special?

We will be learning all about our local area, improving our observational and fieldwork skills. We will then compare where we live to somewhere very different.... The Gambia!

For our project we will try to raise £65 so that Year 2 can pay for a child in Gambia to go to school.  Look out for more details of our sponsored walk very soon!

Our new role play area - a Gambian market stall

Our Autumn term essential question is:

How did children 'Keep Calm and Carry On!' in World War 2?

We will be learning about what life was like for children as evacuees. We will be finding out about:

  • Children's toys
  • Rationing and recipes
  • Keeping safe
  • Living in the countryside
  • Make -do-and-mend
  • Christmas during the War

Our classroom:

Play games and find out about the North Pole. On Christmas Eve you can track Santa as he delivers presents.

Children In Need is this Friday. Here is a link to some games.

Our Spring term project:

Can we welcome the world to Whitton?

This term we are going to be learning all about our local area in order to create an information guide for newcomers to Whitton.

Many people have to leave their homes for all sorts of different reasons. We will be learning about why refugees have to go on long journeys to find a new, safe place to live.

Paddington Bear had to leave Deepest, Darkest Peru and found himself in London, where he was lucky enough to meet the Brown family, who kindly took him in. We will be comparing Peru to Ipswich and thinking about what someone like Paddington would need to know about this area so that they could settle and make it their home.

Our classroom:

In the Autumn term our essential question was:

Is fire a friend or enemy?

We learnt about fire today and in the past.

We found out about the Great Fire of London and Guy Fawkes. As well as how we can stay safe from fire, we will also learnt about how fire helps us in our homes.

We had a visit from fire safety experts - Prince's Street Fire Services!

Look at the photos of our amazing classroom!

We had lots of fun using fire to toast marshmallows!
